UNDP – Angola holds 1st Development Jango

Luanda, 23 April 2009 - UNDP-ANGOLA, held the 1st “Jango de Desenvolvimento” (Development Jango), on April 17 in the United Nations’ Conference room (UN building) in Luanda. In this first edition, the Vice-Minister of Planning, Pedro Luís da Fonseca, presented the Angola Government Plan for 2009.

According to Mr. Luís da Fonseca, in a strategic move, the Government will look forward to diversifying growth, while combating hunger and misery through poverty reduction. The Government intends to create a fair, equal and developed society, that eradicates hunger and misery, based on equal opportunities for all citizens, with focus on human development and justice in the distribution of national revenue, in a way to ensure social and political stability.

A society that guarantees a wide access to condign housing, to drinking water, to electrical power, to educational and health services, as well as to other public goods that contri-bute to social welfare.

Through the “Jango do Desenvolvimento” initiative, UNDP will invite experts to present their perspectives on a series of relevant themes for Angola’s development.
