UNDP – Angola holds 1st Development Jango

Luanda, 23 April 2009 - UNDP-ANGOLA, held the 1st “Jango de Desenvolvimento” (Development Jango), on April 17 in the United Nations’ Conference room (UN building) in Luanda. In this first edition, the Vice-Minister of Planning, Pedro Luís da Fonseca, presented the Angola Government Plan for 2009.

 

According to Mr. Luís da Fonseca, in a strategic move, the Government will look forward to diversifying growth, while combating hunger and misery through poverty reduction.

The Government intends to create a fair, equal and developed society, that eradicates hunger and misery, based on equal opportunities for all citizens, with focus on human development and justice in the distribution of national revenue, in a way to ensure social and political stability.

A society that guarantees a wide access to condign housing, to drinking water, to electrical power, to educational and health services, as well as to other public goods that contri-bute to social welfare.

Through the “Jango do Desenvolvimento” initiative, UNDP will invite experts to present their perspectives on a series of relevant themes for Angola’s development.

The next edition will deal with decentralization in Angola and is expected to have the contribute from Vice Minister of Territorial Adminstration, Graciano Domingos.
