Support to Civic Education Project nears a positive conclusion while focusing on the future Luanda, 27 March 2009 - Nearing the end of UNDP-Angola’s two plus year old Support to Civic Education Project (SCEP), the team has been very busy following-up with the partners to ensure that their activities are complete and all budgetary and programmatic reporting is completed. After this review, UNDP-Angola will finalize payments for the partners final 7% payment of their expended grant amount in order to wrap up grant activities. The SCEP team is also very busy preparing for their 2009 1 st quarter Project Review Board. This review board will be instrumental in guiding the team to prepare and mould the new project proposal which will be launched in April 2009 to donors and partners. The new project, currently named SCEP II, is designed to focus on three main areas of civil society development. The first area is to build the capacity of a number of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in order to gather data to increase evidence based planning of local municipal administrators. This will assist local government entities to advocate for citizens’ needs and to make necessary budget allocations. This portion of the project will work hand in hand with UNDP’s Decentralization and Local Governance Project. The project will also look to continue its Trust Fund activities – funding a select number of CSOs in Angola to carry out civic education activities all over the country. |
