News and EventsUNDP - Global Fund sign a formal agreement with 13 ONG’s in the ambit HIV/AIDS. Luanda, 28 June 2008 - UNDP signed this Thursday USD 1.9 million contracts with 13 Non Governmental Organizations at Instituto Nacional de Luta Contra o SIDA, this funds aims at bolstering the capability of the national institution linked to the fight against HIV/AIDS. The agreement signed by the UNDP Representative a.i., Kwaku Abrefa Deputy Director Operations, and the high representatives of the 13 ONG’s that function in nine provinces of Angola: Cabinda, Benguela, Luanda, Huila, Lunda-Sul, Huambo, Moxico, Zaire. The agreement has as goal the integration of the sex workers. The responsible of Global Fund-UNDP, Jorge Romero said that funds are to be employed in various sphere of the fight against HIV/AIDS particularly areas of prevention and treatment of female sex workers, as well as purchase of medicine and other preventive action. The representative of ONG Human Action, Pombal Maria, affirmed that the signing of this agreement shows the commitment that PNUD and Non Governmental organization have with HIV positive people, he went on mentioning the need of a widespread engagement of all sectors, especially the private sector to act in the field of micro-credit in order to help women to trade sex live activity to the productive sector. ANASO Director, Mr. Antonio Coelho stated that accord will strengthen the capacity of the 13 ONG’s in implementing different HIV/AIDS projects. The occasion counted with the presence of PNUD and 13 ONG’s officials, the Health Deputy Minister for Hospitals; Mrs. Evelize Frestas and the Media.
