UNDP Angola signed an agreement with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany , fund of USD 50, 345,00 to assist the Civic Education Project.

Luanda, 18 June 2008 - UNDP and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Luanda will sign this week an agreement through which the Embassy will contribute USD 50345 USD to the UNDP ‘Support to Civic Education’ Trust Fund, for the printing and distribution of Civic Education Materials through Angolan Civil Society Organizations [CSOs] across 18 Angolan Provinces.

The first Document is entitled: "As Tarefas da Cidadanía" and has been prepared and published by CNE in preparation of the upcoming Angolan parliamentary elections. UNDP has translated the booklet into four national languages (Chokwe, Kikongo, Kimbundu, Umbundu). It is intended to print 2200 copies of each language version. The booklets will be handed out to UNDP partner CSOs to support civic education activities in the field.

The second Document is entitled: "Direitos Día-à-Día" and provides an introduction to the most fundamental economic, social and cultural rights enshrined in the Angolan Constitution. This document has been prepared by FONGA RECI-DESC ( Responsabilidade das Empresas e da Cooperação International sobre os Direitos Económicos, Sociais e Culturais) and will also be printed in the 4 above-mentioned languages.

The UNDP Support to Civic Education Trustfund was established in 2006 in order to fund civic education activities to be facilitated by Angolan Civil Society Organizations. Currently, 22 CSO carry out civic education activities in more than 80 locations across 18 provinces.

With this contribution, the Government of Germany will join the coalition of donors comprised by SIDA, Norway and USAID that are already supporting the UNDP Civic Education Project.
