What we do
UNDP Angola has aligned its programme cycle with the Government planning cycle within the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF).
Under the overarching goal of poverty eradication, UNDP Angola focuses on four inter-connected thematic areas: poverty reduction and achievement of the MDGs, democratic governance, crisis prevention and recovery, and sustainable environment (energy and environment).
The objective being pursued by the "Poverty Reduction and Achievement of the MDGs" programme, is achieving MDGs and reducing human poverty, through support to MDG country reporting and poverty monitoring; private sector and pro-poor policy reform to achieve MDG targets.
Under the "Democratic Governance" programme, UNDP Angola is working to foster democratic governance through justice and human rights; decentralization and local governance; public administration reform; and women's empowerment.
Because of Angola's geographical location, climate change factors, and level of regulation, the country is prone to disasters, the impact of which can cause severe impact on poverty levels particularly on the vulnerable and excluded populations, so the UNDP "Crisis Prevention and Recovery" country programme is mainly, but not limited to natural Disaster Reduction.
Our work in the "Environment and Sustainable Development" area entails support for the establishment of frameworks and strategies for sustainable development, including effective water governance; access to sustainable energy services; sustainable land management to combat desertification and land degradation; conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity; national/sectoral policy and planning to control emissions of ozone-depleting substances and persistent organic pollutants, and promotion of climate change resilience and adaptation measures.
In adopting our plan of action and key deliverables for the current programme cycle, UNDP Angola focuses on the strategic areas where it has comparative advantage within the United Nations system in Angola, as defined in the Country Programme Document (CPD) and Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP) for 2009-2013.
